Surely not!

BBC NEWS | Technology | EA wants 'open gaming platform'

Now I don't care much either way. But surely you are best off having a choice, they all have strengths and weaknesses. What's to choose between consoles, if they all do the same?

Exactly. No-one's gonna produce a console (spending £££'s on R&D) if it doesn't have some extra ability, improving on existing consoles, to get people to buy it. (Better graphics, sound, AI, networking, whatever). And having produced that extra feature, you need game developers to code for it, or it's useless.

Even though I'm not a gamer myself, I agree with most of you here. Surely choice and variety is good. Each console has it's strenghts and weaknesses.

I don't believe it will be a good idea

it will get rid of the choice and as sypickle said someone will just try and make a better one whatever happens
