Unhappy eMac G4 SHIT????

Hi, really really need some help concerning a little matter

basically i am new to the whole music production side of things and i have had some equipment for a while that i have never made proper use of but now i feel it may be to old to do what i want it to do

i have a eMac Power PC g4 with 640mb of memory and a cpu speed of 700 mHz.....is this rubbish??? i have no idea!!

I am using Ableton/pro tools/garage band in an attempt to produce some electro Justice/daft punk kinda stuff but it doesnt seem to be cutting it

the cpu meter in Ableton goes of the charts whenever i press to many keys for example

can anyone recommend a complete setup i need to purchase to run everything smoothly. keeping in mind i want to be rcording vocals and actual instrument parts aswell

oh i also have a M-box 1 and a m-audio keyboard thats working great but whenever i have the m-box plugged in and then launch ableton it just gets stuck...any ideas???

sooooryy for the long msg but any help would be greatly appretiated, thanks

Chris

I know more about nuclear science than I do about macs but 640mb of memory and a cpu speed of 700 mHz seems massively underspecced to me.

Yea, that is a pretty vintage computer you've got there mate. You probably can get away with it, but you'll have to be very patient .

You can get a decent enough PC for about £500 I'd say.

whats the best software for creating such a sound as Justice/daft punk? or is it just a case of experementing with everything?

A word to the wise. We don't advocate that kind of thing here. I don't think anyone will tell: we'll just let the guilt consume you from the inside until you're nothing but a hollow shell. Or until you buy the software.

On the more constructive side, I have a 4yr old Powerbook G4 1.67GHz and 1GB RAM, and it runs Reason OK. At the other end of the scale, I have an Intel-based iMac (the top spec one) and I don't think I've seen Reason's CPU meter as much as twitch when using it.

I've never used Albeton, though.

Ableton 7 is a CPU hog and will push even powerful machines.
You may want to consider Logic.

BTW if you do decide to steal I'm afraid we cant offer any support.
Stealling drives the prices up for those who do purchase it.
