| Foolish Earthmong | I could be up for Gears, but my old save game is gone, so I'll be starting again from scratch.

| bb is not dead | Just got Halo 3 and the Orange Box. They are proper mint. First time I've played Half Life 2, not played the original so I dont really get the plot to be honest, but speeding along on a boat over radioactive waters is great fun ![]()

| Foolish Earthmong | I looked at getting a new game over the weekend. I didn't fancy re-trying Halo 3 at the harder level, so I thought I'd break my "Never pay £40 for a game" rule. I looked at reviews of Assassins Creed and Call Of Duty 4 - and the negative comments all mentioned that the single player side of both games is a little on the short side, and that for AC it can get a little repetative after a while. I didn't want to pay £40 for either after reading that. However, my eyes were drawn to a BioWare game called "Mass Effect". Same kind of deal as their previous adventure games (including "Knights Of The Old Republic", which I spent months playing). Reviews looked good so I took the plunge. I was a little bit worried that it wouldn't live up to KoToR's gameplay due to the lack of Teh Lightsabrezzz, but I've really got into it. Cool story so far, excellent voice acting and facial expressions during the cut scenes, nice balance of FPS/RPG during the combat sequences. All in all, really rather fucking good.

| Get monged out with mong | AX arrived in the post on Saturday. I spent quite a bit of time on it however i am stuck on something quite infuriating right now but hey ho i will get though there. On the whole the game is ok. It's very well done but I can see the monotony in it if you were to follow the script to the letter.

| bb is not dead | whats everyone thoughts on the new movie download service? Looks a bit steep to me, but dunno how much a microsoft point costs.

| Foolish Earthmong | Just looked it up. 4-5GB for an HD movie is actually quite small. I wonder what the quality is like? It won't be HD-DVD or BluRay quality. Also, how long will it take to download that much data? My broadband is 4Mbps. I'm led to believe that every byte needs 10 bits to transfer when you include error checking. I should be able to download a movie in 2.8 hours. Longer when you factor in the data transfer protocol overheads. The TV shows are purchase-only and the movies are rental-only. The rental period only lasts 24hrs from the download, and after that you have to pay again to watch it? Yikes. Also, you can't download to an external drive. Microsoft actually want people to sign up for this? ![]() Also, consider the conspiracy theory that MS is only backing HD-DVD because it sees BluRay winning in the States, and doesn't actually want either of these formats to succeed so it can push this download service. I read it on the internetz, so it must be true.
