| Shiver me timbers | Right, so I've been in contact with ebuyer about fucking off Vista and installing XP. They said I could do it (they won't do it for me though), but I'd have to format my hard drive and this would lose the partition that has the Vista backup or something, and also I'd have to buy XP. They said Vista would be sluggish on my machine, because it only runs decently on a 1 gig machine, 512 meg isn't fast enough (SO why fuckin sell a 512 machine with Vista on it, eh? fuckheads). So I have three options: 1) Buy Windows XP and install it on my machine, risking fucking it up (although if I have XP then I should be able to reinstall at any time I guess). This will cost what £60ish I guess. 2) Use a dodgy copy of Windows XP. Possible problems as above, as well as issues around installing software, the dodginess of it doesn't really appeal to me. Cost of £0. 3) Buy an extra 512meg/1gig RAM and install it. It's only £30ish on Ebay, but I guess I'd want to be careful to get the right one. Is it hard to install? I'd be breaking my warranty by installing it myself, but I can't be arsed sending the machine back to ebuyer unless I absolutely have to. What would you do? |

dont use a dodgy copy...u wont handle it... go for the extra RAM... vista is good, and so is extra RAM... the difficulty level of installing XP and installing RAM are about the same, to install ram you just open open the ram cover on the bottom, put it in the slot, and close the ram cover. to install the OS you open the cd drive, put the CD in, and follow the instructions Quote:
anyway im not impressed MO...uve obviously just remained completely ignorant to everything and are blaming the computer joint for this, just because htey didnt spoon feed you the vista requirements doesnt stop you from taking 5 seconds in google to check it yourself. theyve done nothing wrong, theyve sold you a system with an OS that meets the minimum requirements, you want speed, up ur specs.

| Shiver me timbers | Well, to be fair I didn't look at the operating system when I ordered it, so yeah, fair point. I would have thought they'd give me an option though, considering how slow the farken thing is... Personally, I don't really do an awful lot on my PC, not arsed with playing games or whatever, I thought 512 would have been sufficient, but it's obviously not with running Vista... Think I'll go with the extra ram though, better to upgrade than downgrade I guess, as long as it's shit easy to install... |

i reckon u should investigate it more tho man... vista runs fine for me but my comp atm pulls a lot of weight... if i was you id go for the RAM, then if u still want to switch to XP do it... the added memory will still be beneficial... btw which version of vista are you actually running? i just had a look at requirements myself and everything except the "home basic" has a minimum of 1gb... home basic is a piece of shit and if thats what you have change to XP... if you're running anything above that then ur right, its fucked up - especially since u had no option, in this case complain to them and make them swap it for an XP

| Shiver me timbers | Yeah, can't be arsed paying for a new OS, so I downloaded Linux ubuntu last night, I'll give that a bash for a while and see if I can get everything set up, and if so then it's FUCK YOUSE! to microsoft. From what I can see the only thing I'll have trouble doing is playing games, which I don't give a shit about so whatever. |
