| fuckingfuckthefuckoff | More RAMbell questions You may remember I upgraded my laptop's ram to 2 x 512mb sticks to run Traktor more smoothly. After a few months and some heavy tweaking to optimise performance, I'm still having problems. Some google work told me that my motherboard, while having 2 ram slots, does not support parallel mode (if that's the right term for running 2 sticks side by side). Firstly, wtf is the point in having 2 ram slots of they don't run in parallel? Secondly, I've just taken delivery of a 1gb stick which I shall be installing tonight. Does the symetrical rule still apply if they don't run in parallel or should I take out both ram sticks and just run the single. TBH the only reason I ask if it will be ok is that the second ram slot is fiddly to get to so would rather open the back up, eject one stick and replace it than have to undo a few more screws and release the keyboard. Cheers comptuery know-how people

| Dirty Chunky Housey | You may want to check that both memory modules run at the same speed to avoid any major issues.... Providing they do you should be able to run with different size sticks in without a problem... We run HP lappys at work and have all kind of mismatched memory in ones that needed to be upgraded and I don't think we have had a ram related issue in 3.5 years....

| Foolish Earthmong | I'm assuming you're talking about DDR. It's possible your board is too old (i.e. it pre-dates the DDR standard). It might be that one of the chips has a problem. Have you confirmed that the system can see all 1GB of memory? Does the system as a whole run faster? Is it just traktor that shows a problem? It might be there's some other bottleneck in the system.

so replacing one 512mb stick with two identical 512mb sticks accomplished precisely fuck all ![]() BTW, the system hardware shows 1gb of ram
