laptop

i dont know much about hardware for pc/laptops etc, so wondering if anyone could help me out a little. i'm looking to buy a little laptop, pc preferably(but only cos i'm used to a pc).
basically i want to use it for connecting to my decks (so i can run Cool edit pro or similar software on), and also it would be good if i could run Reason comfortably on it also. i also want to connect a midi keyboard to it, for reason (but usb is ok for this)
i'm not to fussed about having rapid download and internet speeds, and i will not be gaming on it.

so was wondering what sort of range laptop i need? like sound card, ram, hd...whatever.
i'm not looking for a top of the range set up, i just want something that will run smoothly

cheers

Not many lappys come with a decent soundcard which you will need so you will have to get an external one. Try to get something at least half decent and not a gaming or theatre sound type card

To do music these days i would say get at least core 2 duo 2 ghz with 2 gig of ram

After that it is up to you

ok thanks man. if i get an external sound card, do you reckon its worth getting one with midi inputs? i use usb input for my keyboard at the moment. not sure what spec soundcard i got in my pc now, i think the only thing i've updated is the ram. i'll probably notice the difference if i had a proper soundcard tho

If you have only been using a basic soundcard to date then you should see a much bigger improvement with an external one. If you have the port get a firewire one and ideally with midi inputs because you never know what you will hook up, though it aint critical in your position.
