Stab VS Ableton

Ableton is "the rail" of music software for Stabitha. The aim of this thread is to dispel Stabithas concerns and guide him through the basics to get him started doing mashups with the software.

Topics to be covered:

Warping
Creating loops (& organising everything)
Beat slicing
Playing on the fly
Recording/arranging

time to shit or get off the pot then.

Warping I'm kind of ok at, I do have a problem playing a tune from the beginning before the 1st warp marker though, can never get it to work.

Like so.

Thing is I dont see how to make things like in acid (arranging loops etc), I only see how to do things in it live and record them.

OK mate. First thing. Always work in session view for now.

So you want to play the bit before marker 1.1?

You could create an extra clip or just set you start marker to minus something (post an image of the pink bit now.)

FYI to do your mashups you will need to move to arrange view to finish it off but to get everything set up you use session view. How you set up your clips (loops) is critical in your case. You can simply drag and drop them into arrange view after that.

Don't forget you can set up your clips to loop or just play from start to the end point. Of course you can set a start point outside the loop too.

Now import a house track and warp it. We are going to take the first bar (typically just beats) of music and beat slice it

I have a house tune in it now.
Here's the pink bit.

Getting ahead of myself now but when I go to arrangement I dont see any track, nor how to get in there.

We will talk arrangement a totally different time. Do the beat i mentioned.

Create different tracks (audio columns) for each clip for now.

E.g. track 1 = drums
track 2 = song 1 melody (may have beats but we can eq them out in the track
tracks 3 = song 2 etc..

I am guessing the clip you are showing me starts with just beats.

If so click loop, the default is one bar of music i.e. the length parameter. Make sure the start point is 1 still as sometimes this changes when you move /copy paste clips (don't ask me why)
