Production Software

Ok Guys... I need some advice...

I am desperate to start producing my own tunes...

I have a midi keyboard (Edirol PCR-1) and my new speakers on on their way. As a non musical (ie I don't play the keyboard and can't read music) person what is the best software for me to start on to get the basics. I am not expecting to be making good tunes any time soon but I need to start somewhere. I am very very inpatient but if I can find some software that I get on with and just get a few riffs and drum loops that sound OK then I will get hooked and put a lot more time into it.

Any advice on software and also "idiots guide to" type of reference material would be very much appreciated.

Oh and I am going to be producing Chunky, Dirty House typr of stuf if that makes a difference.

Thanks in advance.

Yes you need at least four very large sacks of patience.

I prefer Fruity Loops personally. It's cheap and does pretty much everything you want.

Get a sample CD, too. That's the easiest way to get started I reckon.

I like FL because it's easy to get started on. Can see myself getting quite into Reason too, but tis clearly not the one for technophobes.

I want to get familiar with all the popular software used to produce EDM, so ask me this question again in a year and I'll be the best person to ask this question..

Possibly.

You never stop barking up that tree do you!

Actually my Reason Adapted works bloody well on 98 IMO. As does my old version of FL.

I'm saving myself for Cubase for a day far off in the unforseen future when I stop your winging and upgrade my PeeCee.

Don't do P2P, haven't done for a few years.

No need tho Aunty. Bless you, but stop being so feckin persistent.

I'll learn what I've got like the back of my hand, then when I'm ready, I'll upgrade my PC, and go the whole hog with all the latest goodies.

Purleeeeease remember: New PC is waaaay down on the extensive list of wanted items m8.
