My ableton controller ting

I paid something stupid for this hercules in belgium, was cheap as chips, I think 29 euros if I remember right from Makro.
Being midi I slapped it together with ableton.

Audio tracks one and 2 I use like 2 decks A and B
The traditional bass, mid and highs now control the glitch shit I like to play with.
1,2 and 3 which used to be loop select in VDJ are now effect on buttons, so I can hold down 2 for example and spin the shit out the bass knob and glitch it all up.
Master tempo buttons now toggle the effects screens for tracks 1 and 2.
The headphone monitor button is now effects for audio track 3 which I use as a samples dumping ground.
By far the best thing I did though was map the filter sweep to the jog wheels, spin it and squelch it baby

All this runs out now to my mixer so I can monitor and use the faders properly, sadly my lappy has to run at 500ms latency to stop drop outs, the faders dont react quick enough within ableton. I'm running this on a 1200Mhz 1 gig ram laptop and at the moment, touch wood, it's extremely stable, I could make traktor hiccup quite easily, I cant make this even slightly spasm, even if I get all the effects I use to turn on at the same time and analyse some new tracks, impressive.
I know it will never be some proper midi thing but it's doing me good I think.

Now to learn what midi is in terms of the music production side, got the DJ thing sussed out

500ms is rather big Steinz

Stabby did you know there is a cross fader on Ableton? I guesss you will be able to midi assign it.
Press the X to see it. You then need to switch the first channel (column) to A and the second to B.

RTFM and you will see

yeah I know about the ableton fader, I had mapped it to the hercules but it's reaction was too slow, I couldnt cut in or anything, it kept missing the beat. Same for the volume faders, now my normal mixer handles all that.

500ms is not rather big by the way, it's fucking HUGE.

I was being polite

Get a proper external soundcard and should expect around 10 to 20 ms. Ableton ain't that fast tbh. With the same soundcard/set up I can get 2ms on Traktor.

I'm finding ableton to be easier on the lappy than traktor. My external card is only a sound blaster live, does me ok.
The big stumbling block I'm finding now is to get more serious with this (ie pay for it ) is I want to upgrade everything, lappy, soundcard, controller etc. Weddings aint cheap around these parts

Simple, don't get married

Glad you are considering the legal route

No offence but your sound card is uber shit for djing/production ( I know I had one).

Live lite comes free normally when bundled with a controller/sound card etc . Check the Ableton site for what offers they have on at the moment. That's how i got mine. It is much cheaper to upgrade after that too

As for a lappy, well call the one you have as a learning/ backup machine and when ya have the money get something half decent - no need to go there for a while as its your sound card that is the real problem at the moment.

yeah I saw some controllers come with it, just cant decide if I want a traditional dj style, keyboard style like the m-audio oxygen 8 or something like a trigger finger with pads.
