Me and my 80's sound again (Testing out Ozone too)

Started on another old track again. This was more of an exercise with the mastering tool and working on a melody more than anything.

The melody around the 1:43 remarks gives me a sense of deja vu. Does it sound familiar to you?

Very nice crisp sound Mong. The lowest regions of the bass need a bit more controlling tho IMO. The melody doesn't remind me of anything in particular btw.

Thanx for listening and for the feedback. Agreed about the sub bass i think i need to roll it off more judging by EQ the reference. I wasnt able to play it on my monitors last night to check. TBH I do most of my monitoring in headphones (I know this is wrong) so i don't piss off the neighbours.

With headphones you dont have room acoustics messing up the sound. there is nothing wrong with this at all, unless the headphones are really shit. Even then, its not wrong, just may taint the overall sound causing you problems later on. My headphones are shit and have exactly this problem. My monitoring setup is also not brilliant, and in a room with terrible acoustics (no damping at all, ie wooden floors, large unbroken walls and no curtains)

Just make sure you reference the track on a number of systems. thats what i do and it seems to work. I also tend to blast it whilst walking around the room (amongst the various frequency hot spots) to make sure it sounds balanced in all areas.

One thing that heaphones seem to do though is exagerate reverb and stereo position. I find that reverb set using headphones is often barely audible on the main system, same with stereo positioning. On the reverse, stereo imaging can sound irritatingly wide when played on headphones, and reverb can almost drown everyting out. its quite a fine balance getting the sound to be acceptable on both heapdhones and the main system.

the bit where the beat cuts out about 2/3 way through sounds a bit wrong.

Quite into the way it builds up towards the end.

Snare is a bit pfffft.

Bass sounded OK to me, but i'm on shitty headphones, so I prob cant hear it.

Definatley a clean crisp sound to the tune. That ozone's good shit innit?
