Manu- Madonna "Frozen" remix.

Good evening ladies and gents

I don't often leave some stuff on the internet, but here is a remix of Madonna's "Frozen", it's some sort of oldschool edm / oldschool hiphop ish / chillout with an ever-so-slight heavy metal edge to it track . 108 BPM

Madonna: Frozen ( cool remix 320k) Stream / Download

Hope you'll enjoy... Light up, play loud

ManuStudio 2008. ( Madonna sample, copyright Maverick 1998. Drum sample: The Winstons: Amen Brother, 1969. Apollo radio end transmission sample, 1969)

cheeky lil tune this!

only thing i would say is the vocal could do with warming up a lil, maybe some reverb or delay or somthing just to take the edhe off

other than that, i like it!

True, good point. The problem I had was when she says " you're So confuSed": if I have too much reverb on, I'd have to chain up 2 or 3 de-essers. I'm trying to figure out my way around this like having more delay instead or something else. I'll work on it during the weekend( holiday woohoo), I had a listen this morning on a pair of KRK Exposé this morning so I pretty much know where to go...

Cheers

That's the best version I've ever heard of that song IMO Manu.

I agree with Danny, something needs to be done with that vocal, although I'm not sure if reverb or delay is the best way to go. Keep it subtle and short if you do.

I think it might be problematic getting a perfect balance throughout the track tho. I always thought the original Madonna track suffered the same problem. The vocal in the quiet sections has always grated for me.

I would see what you could do with compression. The timing would be tricky, so as not to spoil the natural quality of the vocal. Might I suggest a trick for setting attack & release on compression...

Set a pretty heavy ratio, like 8:1 or 10:1 to experiment with the timing on the compressor. Then, when you're happy with the attack & release, reduce the ratio down, probably between 2:1 to 4:1 on that vocal.

Something will then need to be done to tweak the relative levels to the rest of the instruments. Unless you have side-chaining, that could enable you to only apply the compression where needed, in the quieter sections.

Most excellent work so far tho m8.

well thanks a lot Sproggy, appreciated. The story is, I bought the cd single and didn't like any of the remixes, the club mix was absolute boring as well, so I decided to do it myself..

I'll work my way around the vocals. I tried more compression, but it kills the dynamics. I just have to run that tiny portion in a de-esser, then I'll be able to fit the whole lot back to where it should be..

Cheers

Maybe automate the wet/dry mix on your reverb/delay so it's wetter when you need it, and dryer when you want some clarity.

Nice arrangement. Loads of potential. Even the drums sound that bit better than last time

However, the gated sound starts to grate on me after a while because it just kicks in, out and changes volume and nowt else. Drums goes off on occasions too. These are small points mind and easy to fix. Me thinks you are suffering from what i do all the time = loop fever. The instrument patch that comes in after the 3 min mark could do with refining too. Just my opinion mind

I wont comment on the vocals as it has been done.

Thanx for the update, tis much much better

That's some subtle fine tuning, but seems to make quite a difference, in practice. Definitely worth the work.

Only thing it remains to ask is: When I play this, what URL do I point your link to from the tracklist? ... You got a Soundclick/Myspace or summat Manu?

Thanks matey

I don't have any kind of myspace account. I'm waiting a coupla years to pile up a shit load of stuff, and then I'll open my own site ( my brother's a computer engineer/web designer, we've started developping that stuff)... I just use Zshare at the moment, so people can stream or download at their convenience....
