Angel

First of all I want to apologize to everyone for being a little quiet/absent on the boards lately. Reason? - Reason, I've finished going through all of peff's book (power tools for reason) exercises, learned a load, I desperately felt the need to apply at least some of what I've learned into work.

Although not properly mastered yet I've made another track - Angel.

I know Stabby is gonna jack it anyway so whatever , but it's my first honest attempt at underground, not minimal, still progressive, probably inspired to some extend by some of the stuff Zabiela played as well as watching deadmau5 at work on youtube.

Angel has a scent of tribal, progressive, dirty electro and whatever else that the listener may feel. It's up on my site, feel free to give it a listen guys
celestial productions - music. sensationally redefined.

it's under the productions tab btw, damn I feel like I need a break for a little, been hardcore at reason for several days, not getting a lot of sleep, started it up this past weekend, it's a done track just needs more proper mastering, need to let my ears breath for a bit, will get back to it this saturday and put up a new version, in the meantime feedback is obviously welcomed as usual.

Certainly not minimal but darker maybe than usual? I liked it tho got lost in the build up even after listening to it 3 times! Id put it firmly in the electro house bag

Yes, the on beat / off beat stuff in the first build up of the sample is a bit annoying. Otherwise, I thought it sounded pretty good. A dirty enough sound for the bassline and the beats were solid and the elements cohesive. the levels all seemed good to.

main critisim. you still havent got to grips with that stereo imaging tool you are using. In that respect it sounds utter gash, far far to wide. Listen to it through headphones, then listen to a pro track through headphones. can you honestly tell me the imaging of your tune sounds like the pro tune? It just doesnt. Seriously dude, youve got a solid sounding tune here but you are ruining it with your insistance of bunging it all through this stereo widdening tool.

This is my suggestion. Remove the widdening. use a sutble but fast autopanner on the hi hats to enhance their stereo feild a little, or use ghost hats panned aside. Mono the bass line and the kick. add the widdening effect on the synth riff if it sounds a bit too mono, also on any fx etc. Otherwise, leave the widdening to the pro's at mastering time if they feel its necessary. These guys know what they are doing, have the right tools, and wont fuck up your track.

Please take this the way its intended. The sooner you start ignoring that steroe widdener, the sooner you are likely to get something signed in my opinion.

thanks guys, I'm don't have any devices for stereo imaging, I do it all manually through delays within reason, I appreciate your feedback definitely and will look into it this saturday, which means I might as well fix up the other tracks as far as the stereo imaging goes

yeah I know but it's disabled, now that I think about it instead of dicking around with the original reason file I could just "negative" image the track through izotope ozone. Which brings me to a quick question - if that tracks doesn't necessarily have an empty spot in the middle of the mix what's wrong with too much stereo imaging? I understand that it's wide, I actually have a track I got off of beatport that is A LOT wider than anything else and it sounds good. So as long as a I don't have that hollow point in the middle, what's wrong with spreading the sound out? just curious

Reason has a device called "M-Class Stereo Imager". (Not sure which version you're using, though. My knowledge is from v3.0).
